Share Your Story on Ex-Wives Undercover and Make a Difference

Since launching our podcast, Ex-Wives Undercover, more than two years ago we’ve met many women worldwide who share similar stories. While it was a bit scary to tell intimate details of a horrible time in our lives, we’ve found gratitude for the learning experience and the friendships we’ve made along the way. Often, we’re shamed into silence but by speaking out we can potentially help someone who may be going through something similar or even save a life. If you’re ready to share your story, we want to hear from you!

Why Ex-Wives Undercover?

First and foremost, it’s so important for you to feel comfortable and safe to share your story. There are several well-known podcasts in our niche – from Something Was Wrong to When Dating Hurts to It Doesn’t End Here and What Was That Like – that also share similar stories, so be sure to do your research and choose a podcast and host that you resonate with.

  • While we discuss very heavy topics, our style is a very informal and conversational format – we laugh, we cry, we dig deep into the tough topics and we learn from one another. If you haven’t already, take a listen to our eX-Files episodes to get a feel [seasons 3, 4, 5, and beyond].
  • It’s also important to be in control of YOUR story. This is very important and an area that many don’t consider before going on a popular podcast. We are the sole owners of our podcast and have complete creative control. Because of that, we always work in tandem with our guests and provide the option to listen to full episodes ahead of time and prior to going live. If there is something factually not correct or you wish to clarify something that was said or even remove a section you aren’t comfortable with…we will fix it because you’re a part of the editing process. Something to consider…if you’re going telling your story with a podcast that is part of a big network – like Wondery, iHeart, or PodcastOne – there is a good chance that they have a team of editors they use and won’t offer as much flexibility or control of the story.
  • No matter what, we tell the ENTIRE story! It’s important to us that the important details are never left out. This happens a lot when a podcast is limited to sharing an entire relationship story to fit into a one-hour episode. What we don’t want to happen is listeners going to Reddit and other online chat forums to fill in the gaps of what was left out. This is frustrating and misinformation and victim-blaming begin to set in. We work with you to create a thorough outline for the show and never have a set amount of episodes – so your story could be one episode or 15.

How To Submit Your Story?

We would be absolutely honored to have you choose Ex-Wives Undercover to share your story. It’s as simple as sending us an email at ExWivesUndercover@Gmail.com.

We both work full-time so we aren’t always able to respond right away. Please know that we file ALL submissions and will be in touch when we are in planning mode for the next season.

Here are a couple of tips when submitting:

  • Please write an elevator pitch of your story [2-3 paragraphs] – we don’t need all the details but a summary along with a few key details is helpful.
  • Documents, texts, emails, or other supporting evidence in the early stages isn’t necessary. If your story is chosen, we’ll ask for this stuff later.
  • Please don’t send us an email telling us to watch your TikTok or read your blog. We wish we had time but it’s just not possible to go on a rat race to find the information. Please include all pertinent details in your initial email with a link at the bottom that we can check out if we have time.
  • Be sure to emphasize what makes your story interesting or special. Is there a twist to the story or angle that we haven’t covered yet? Is there a learning lesson that we need to know?
  • As our name implies, we are always looking for stories specifically where wives/girlfriends come together and go ‘undercover’ to discover the truth. This type of story will be slightly favored, but we are open to any and all stories covering everything from conmen to domestic violence. Also, we would love to hear from under-represented groups as well like people of color and those from LGBTQIA+ communities.

What is Our Process if You Get Chosen?

Once we choose a story for the season, we’ll schedule an initial meet ‘n greet to gather information, answer any questions, decide on an interview schedule and come up with fake names if you choose. Guests have the option to use real names or fake ones depending on how private they’d like to be. If you aren’t sure, check out this insightful interview with our lawyer about the liabilities of ‘outing an ex.’

If you’re a brave soul, we also have a YouTube channel and you can choose to share your story there as well which will only increase the reach of your story.

The interviews will last for several weeks so be prepared for a time commitment. Generally, we’ve been averaging about two hours of interviewing per episode. We also ask that you provide us with at least two other people to interview as well to corroborate your story – this can be a friend or family member, for example. Depending on the story, we might also reach out to a professional for their input as well. This could be a psychologist, law enforcement, or dating coach.

Once all the interviews are complete, we then move into the editing process. This takes an additional month at a minimum. Once we have a first draft of an episode, we’ll upload it to a shared Google Drive for you to listen to and provide feedback. After it’s approved, we’ll add the background music and schedule it within our podcast hosting site.

Leading up to the launch date, if you have texts, photos, and/or supporting evidence that will be useful to help promote your episodes, we’ll ask for that info.

We’ll keep you apprised every step of the way and you’ll have our personal phone numbers to contact us whenever you need. This is an exciting journey and we want to make it a good experience.
