Why Being Betrayed by the Other Woman Hurts More

It’s not often that you get to form any kind of relationship with the other woman, but in Amber’s case she did. In season two, episode 1 of Ex-Wives Undercover ‘Backstabbed’, we see both Amber and Athena form a bond with the multiple women Ben had affairs with. But, when Avery’s behavior becomes suspicious, they learned very quickly that maybe they gave trust to someone they shouldn’t have.

The Other Woman

An excerpt from the episode,

It was comforting to have a group of women to lean on during this time, even though they happened to be my husband’s ex-wife and two ex-girlfriends – a very odd group indeed. Nonetheless, we continued talking and sharing everything. I vividly remember DeAnna asking me privately one day if we could trust Avery and without hesitation I said, “of course we can!” She was the only one that sensed something about her and was very hesitant. It was just three days before Ben’s pre-trial hearing and during our normal group texts Avery was especially quiet. We chalked it up to just being disappointed about the guy she met on Bumble, but something deep down inside knew it was more than that. The day of the hearing, it was just as I suspected…Avery showed up on behalf of Ben. Stunned was the understatement of the century!Amber

Why Betrayal Hurts, Especially from the Other Woman

Certain types of women fall victim to the Ben’s of the world because they trust too easily. People who have a personality disorder can easily identify those who are overly compassionate and willing to trust right away. After the A-team discover the lies Ben had been telling for the past few years, they found comfort with the other women. However, trusting too soon can backfire as it did in this episode.

Without knowing Avery well, nor the extent of her messy relationship with Ben, they unwittingly got a rude awakening when she fell into the clutches of him once again. To them, it was clear and plain as day how deceiving and manipulative Ben was…how could Avery not see that?

More often than not, the other woman feels the heat of an exposed affair, not the cheater. Amber and Athena gave support to Avery during her time of need though – whether that be to help her financially when Ben was accused of slitting her tires or helping her find her dogs when they went missing. So, it’s understandable that Avery choosing Ben again was hurtful and almost felt like being betrayed twice! But, here’s the deal. Yes, it hurts. Ultimately it can be chalked up to a lesson learned for both Amber and Athena as well as Avery. There’s not one person who has walked this earth that can say they’ve done everything right. Learning to forgive is sometimes harder to do than be angry. It’s ok to feel the feelings and process what happened…but it’s also important to learn grace and the power of forgiveness.

Just days after getting out of jail for threatening to kill Athena and Avery, Ben hit the town with a few childhood friends. Drinking alcohol was a violation of his bail. What do you think…Tequila shots or oyster shooters?
